MELBOURNE, Australia – The Perth Thunder visited the Melbourne Mustangs this past weekend for a doubleheader tilt. The visitors spoiled the brace of games by taking six points from the contests and leaving the Mustangs empty.
Both teams had splendid opportunities over the weekend with each club launching the same number of shots on goal.
The real difference between the two teams and the outcome of the matches was the defense.
The one aspect of the Mustangs’ game that could be the improvement of their shots on goal game and passing up that extra pass for the perfect shot.
Perth won both ends of the doubleheader by scores of 5-4 on Saturday and 5-1 on Sunday.
The multiple scorers from the weekend for the Thunder were Benjamin Breault who scored one goal and three assists for four points; Jessyko Bernard who struck for three goals and four points; Christian Ouellet who netted one goal and added four assists for five points.
For the Mustangs, Maxime Langelier-Parent scored twice and got two assists for four points
Mustangs and Perth had very similar shots on goal for both games.
Perth Thunder were strong and showed why there are second on the ladder with one round left to be played before the finals, the top two are set, third and fourth are confirmed but could still change the course of who plays whom in the first two finals before the final on Sunday.
Melbourne Ice are going to be hard to beat, watching them play at home for the full AIHL season, their game has another gear or twoto engage.
Perth Thunder, have all the skills it will be able of they are able to keep up this would be the fairytale end for the Thunder to win.
Canberra Brave, if they get behind they will bring out the dirty play and cheap shots, are they able play with a level head and eliminate this from their game. The Brave play with moments of brilliance are they able to keep it up for the full three periods.
Mustangs seem to have a full squad back after a season riddled with injuries for most of their season, and seem to be ramping up at the right time of the season or it a little two late.
