PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: The Havoc Pepper Goaltender in 3-2 Shootout Loss to the Ice Bears

HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Havoc fall to the Knoxville Ice Bears 3-2 in a shootout to grab a standings point for the third straight game.

Huntsville kicked the scoring off in the first period for the second time this season against Knoxville when Christian Powers redirected a shot out front. Off the face-off, Nolan Kaiser fired a shot that was tipped in by the Carlisle, Ont. native for his 10th of the season at 11:44 of the first period. Along with Kaiser, Stuart Stefan grabbed an assist on the goal that gave the Havoc a 1-0 lead.

But with just 42 seconds left in the opening frame, Knoxville tied that game at one. The Havoc saw the game tied at one after one for the second time in their last three games.

In the second, Christian Powers found the back of the net for the second time in the game; this time on the power play. After Lou Educate’s shot rang off the end wall, the puck bounced out to Powers who registered his second multi-goal game of the season at 11:44 of the middle frame.

But once again, Knoxville tied the game right back up; this time just three and a half minutes after giving up the lead.

After a scoreless third period that saw Huntsville register 15 shots on goal, we headed to overtime. Both teams saw multiple odd-man rushes during the three-on-three extra frame, but the goaltenders stood tall in their respective creases.

With the extra frame providing no clear winner, the game headed to a shootout. In the round-robin, Huntsville, and Christian Powers, went first to take an early lead after Knoxville’s shot went off the post. But, the Ice Bears would see their next three hit the back of the net while the Havoc were stymied by the Knoxville netminder; falling 3-2 in a shootout.
