HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Havoc move up to a tie for second place in the SPHL with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Macon Mayhem on Saturday.
In the first, Huntsville kicked the scoring off for the second straight contest against Macon and third time overall. It began with Darren McCormick, streaking in on the right-wing half-wall, saw Scott Fellnermayr crashing to the net for his eighth of the season at 8:13.
But the lead was short-lived when Macon came back to score their first of the game at 13:35 into the opening frame.
The two teams headed to the second tied for the first time this season when Huntsville regained their one-goal lead. Kyle Sharkey saw a pass from Andy Willigar and broke free on the left-wing for his first professional goal at 9:38.
But, just like the first period, Macon quickly countered with a game-tying goal just 79 seconds later.
With a tie game heading to the third, the Mayhem would see their first lead of the game just five minutes into the final frame of regulation.
Huntsville was not willing to give up too easily though as the game continued. With Willigar finding a seam for Rob Simpson after hitting the blue line, the Etobicoke, Ont. native potted his third of the season at 17:10 to send the game to overtime.
After a scoreless extra frame, the two teams decided the contest in a shootout with Macon scoring on two of their three shots to take the game 4-3.
