TORONTO – Team Europe made life difficult for Team USA right out of the gate in the World Cup of Hockey in Toronto.
In an already tough Group A, the USA is now forced into a must-win situation on Tuesday night after a 3-0 loss to the Team Europe squad.
Marian Gaborik, Leon Draisaiti and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored for Team Europe.
Jaroslav Halak made 35 saves for the shutout.
Jonathan Quick made just 14 saves in taking the loss.
Team USA now has the unenviable task of needing to defeat Team Canada Tuesday night to have any hope of getting out of Group A.
