PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Szabados leads Columbus to shutout victory over Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, AL Shannon Szabados recorded a shutout against the Huntsville Havoc as the Columbus Cottonmouths picked up a 3-0 win.

Columbus was led by Ben OQuinn, who racked up one goal. OQuinn scored 2:19 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Andy Willigar assisted on the tally.

The Cottonmouths stifled Huntsville’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Columbus’ offense was clicking better than usual and put 30 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.0 shots per game it averages.

Columbus also got points from Louis Belisle, who also registered one goal and one assist and Chris Rial, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Columbus came via Andy Bathgate and Kyle Brodie, who contributed one each.

The Havoc excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Huntsville could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Havoc average 3.0 goals per game. Huntsville put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.1 it averages per game.

The Havoc were led by Brett Lutes, who took eight shots.

Szabados rejected 33 shots on goal for the Cottonmouths. Columbus ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Kevin Genoe made 27 saves for Huntsville on 30 shots. The Havoc totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play. For Huntsville, Will Aide was ejected from the game.
