PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Storm edge Sheffield in OT, 3-2

SHEFFIELD, UK – Goals from Evan McGrath and Jiri Gula weren’t enough to prevent Manchester Storm taking both points in the Challenge Cup on Saturday evening.

Steelers led 1-0 and 2-1 before Ciaran Long equalised for the Storm to send the game into overtime and an eventual shoot out.

All 5 Steelers failed to convert in the shoot out with only Rob Linsmayer finding the net for Manchester – enough though to secure the extra point.

After a scoreless first period Steelers took the lead after 28.50 when Jiri Gula scored his first Steelers goal.

Steelers were in total control and looking to double their advantage as the middle period came to an end. With Marcus Basara in the box for delaying the game the Steelers pressed but it was Manchester who would score short handed (Moffatt assisted Byers).

McGrath eased the nerves 4 minutes into the third period (assisted Owens and D. Phillips) to give the Steelers a 2-1 lead.

Again the Steelers looked in complete control and had a further power-play opportunity when Dylan Anderson took a charging minor.

The Storm came back though at 53.16 when Long equalised (assisted Moffat and Byers)

Both teams went close in the overtime period but the game went to a shoot out.

McGrath, Lawrence, Pitt, Buzzeo and Matherson all failed to score on Manchester goalie Matt Ginn.

Rob Linsmayer was the only Storm player to convert.
