This weekend proved to be a successful one for the Generals winning both games vs the Dundas Real McCoys on Friday night and the Whitby Dunlops on Monday afternoon.
On Friday night, the Generals headed to the JL Grightmire arena and despite having a short bench, Dundas would open up the scoring but Stoney Creek would answer back 3 times to finish off the first period. Goals in the first scored shorthanded by Pageau, Gongalsky and O’Donnell.
In the second period it was all Generals scoring an additional 5 goals, giving Stoney Creek an 8-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Konkle would score 2 of those goals, Gongalsky would get his second of the night, Fergus and Falasca with 1 each. In the third, Dundas would score 2 more goals and Konkle got one more of his own to round out a hat trick. The final 9-3 for Stoney Creek.
On Family Day the Whitby Dunlops made the trip to Gateway for a 2:30PM puck drop. It would be a back and forth game until the third period with 4 goals being answered by Whitby. It wasn’t until mid-third period when the Generals took the lead and kept it for the first time this season against the Dunlops.
Generals penalty kill was on fire in the third with Stoney Creek receiving 4 penalties almost back to back and managing to maintain a 0-9 record this game. Pageau had a pair of goals, one shorthanded, Dzieduszycki, O’Marra and Justin Donati would get singles and Bibic would secure the win with an empty net goal. Final score 6-4 for Stoney Creek.
Generals goalie Matt Sagrott faced 55 shots over both games and to date has a GAA of 3.76.
The Generals are back vs the Brantford Blast in a home and away series on Friday and Saturday to conclude the regular season.
