STOCKTON, Calif. – The Stockton Heat clinched two wins over the weekend, hosting the San Diego Gulls for Hot Pink 2. The Heat players sported a special sweater with pink trim for the weekend events.
In Friday’sĀ game, Stockton handed the Gulls a 6-1 loss, with goals from six different players. Ā Linden Vey and Oliver Kylington Ā chalked up three points each in the game. Kenney Morrison, Mark Jankowski, Emile Poirier, Matt Frattin, Brandon Bollig and Vey each scored goals during the game. Ā
The sole Gulls goal came off the stick of Emerson Etem, in the first period. Ā The Gulls started Dustin Tokarski in the net, but was chased out after the second period in favor of Matt Hackett.
Jon Gillies, in the net for Stockton, posted 22 saves for the win.
In the second game, on Saturday night, Stockton skaters hammered Hackett in the net, and ultimately allowing seven goals.
Frattin and Andrew Mangiapane each scored in the first and second period, while Kevin Roy scored a pair of goals himself for the Gulls in the first period.
Zac Larraza scored the lone goal in the third for the Gulls, while Morgan Klimchuk, Mike Angelidis and Kylington would each score a goal to push the Heat to 7 goals, and the 7-3 win over the Gulls.
The Heat’s powerplay was the difference in this game, scorning on four of eight chances for the night. San Diego was zero for four chances.
The downside for the Heat was the fact that Jon Gillies was pulled from the net after the first period, with complaints of a jammed finger. Ā Tom McCollum was placed in the net for his first chance before the home crowd, saving 19 of 20 shots on the net for the duration of the game.
The two wins for the Heat clinched a perfect Hot Pink 2, the first time since Thunder Goes Pink VIII in 2013-14 that a Stockton hockey team swept pink weekend. Ā Stockton hockey teamsĀ are now 16-6-1-2 all-time on pink ice.
Stockton will host the San Antonio Rampage next Friday night. Ā The Gulls will return home to host the Manitoba Moose.
