PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Steelers upend Coventry, 5-2

SHEFFIELD, UK – A big third period effort from the Sheffield Steelers saw the South Yorkshire side beat Coventry 5-2 at the Sheffield Arena on Saturday night.

Forward Matt Marquardt, who joined Sheffield from Coventry during the summer, put the Steelers ahead just over six minutes in to the game with a powerplay effort.

Coventry struck back five minutes later when ex-Steelers Luke Ferrara beat Ervins Mustukovs to tie the game at 1-1 before the first intermission.

The hosts regained the lead mid way through the second period, Andreas Vadix the scorer at 31.44 with assists to Robert Dowd.

The Blaze found a way back in to the game as Ferrara cooly converted a penalty shot opportunity.

Robert Dowd put the Steelers ahead again five minutes in to the final period with Tim Wallace and Levi Nelson assisting.

There was no reply from the Blaze this time as Joonas Ronnberg found the net in the 58th minute with the Steelers on the power-play.

Captain Jonathan Phillips completed the victory with an empty net goal 76 seconds from the end.

Mark Matheson earned a well deserved man of the match award and treated the crowd to a great “Eddy”
