SHEFFIELD, UK – Matt Marquardt scored twice with further strikes from Miika Franssila, Zack Fitzgerald, Mathieu Roy and Ben O’Connor as the Steelers became the first side to make the semi finals of the Challenge Cup after a 6-1 home victory (13-3 on aggregate)
Steelers will now play either Cardiff Devils or the Guildford Flames in the semi finals.
It was a nervous start for the Steelers on Tuesday night playing in front of over 4,000 home fans who had taken advantage of the £5 ticket.
Steelers doubled the shot count on Dundee (12-6) in the first period but the game remained scoreless.
It was looking like a similar story in the middle period (13-7) but a solo effort – and his first for the club by Miika Franssila had the Steelers on the board (1-0) at 37.30
Prior to that the fans were off their feet after a clash between Robert Dowd and Anthony Mastrodicasa – Dowdy in a rage and firing some big blows.
With 14 second remaining in the period Sheffield doubled their advantage when Matt Marquardt scored his first of the night.
The flood gates opened in the third period as first marquardt (on a breakaway) made it 3-0 at 41.13 (Jamtin)
4-0 Came at 44.29 when Zack Fitzgerald converted (Westerling and Kirk)
A power-play strike at 47.18 had the King of Sheffield on the board with the 5th (assisted O’Connor and Westerling)
With 10 minutes remaining Ben O’Connor scored a 6th (Roy and Matheson) to conclude scoring for the night.
The entertainment hadn’t ended though, Colton Fretter got to grips with Stars player coach Omar Pacha in the final minutes.
