PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Steelers rout Fife, 8-1

SHEFFIELD, UK –  Steelers bounced back from Saturday’s 2-1 road loss in Belfast by thumping in form Fife Flyers 8-1 at the Arena on Sunday.

Colton Fretter scored twice with Liam Kirk, Mathieu Roy, Miika Franssila, Tim Wallace, Matt Marquart and Ben O’Connor all finding the back of the net.

Steelers were off to a flyer when Matt Marquardt opened the scoring after just 42 seconds. His goal saw off Fife’s starting goalie Andy Iles replaced by Jordan Marr.

Ben O’Connor riffled home for a 2nd at 10.32 (Shudra and Fitzgerald)

16.23 and it was 3-0 when Fretter scored his first of the night – the Steelers went into the first break in an excellent position.

If it was 3 in the first, it was 4 in the middle period.

Miika Franssila scored the 4th just 3 minutes in and then Mathieu Roy made it 5-0 2 minutes later.

6-0 came at 31.16 when Liam Kirk broke away to score unassisted.

Fretter grabbed his brace with 3.44 remaining in the period short handed to see the Steelers 7-0 up at the break.

Brad Day replaced Ervins Mustukovs for the final period but Day was beaten by James Isaacs shot 55 seconds in – from then on Day was a wall turning away 8 further Fife shots.

Steelers would wrap up the scoring in the 52nd minute when Tim Wallace converted (Nelson and Matheson).
