SHEFFIELD, UK –  The Stena Line Belfast Giants made it back-to-back wins this weekend thanks to Sunday’s 3-2 road win in Sheffield. Goals from Colin Shields, Brendan Connolly and Darcy Murphy combined with a stellar display in goal by Jackson Whistle earned the Giants an impressive win that follows Saturday’s 6-4 victory in Manchester.

The win was even more notable with the Giants missing Stephen Murphy, Dustin Johner, John Kurtz and Mark Garside through injury as well as the suspended Spiro Goulakos. The victory in Sheffield sees the Giants remain in first place with 33 points from 25 games.

Shields Strikes As Giants Start Well In Sheffield

Colin Shields gave the visitors a well deserved lead at 10:40 when his slapshot ripped past Mustukovs into the Steelers net.

Five minutes later and it was even again as Colton Fretter scored on a 2-on-1 with the Steelers breaking quickly following a Giants attack.

Connolly Fires Giants Into Second Period Lead

Brendan Connolly grabbed the only goal of the middle period when Jim Vandermeer found the forward wide open in front of the Steelers goal and Connolly converted at 34:00.

Giants Battle In Third To Claim The Two Points

Darcy Murphy extended the Giants lead at 51:58 when Blair Riley put him through on goal with the #15 finishing cooly into the Sheffield net.

Rob Dowd pulled a goal back late on for the hosts at 54:38 to set up a nervy finish however the Giants saw out the game to claim a second away win of the weekend.
