SHEFFIELD, UK – Josh Pitt scored a dramatic game winning goal 30 seconds into overtime to secure the Steelers a well deserved 2-1 victory over the Nottingham Panthers.
Steelers had trailed 1-0 from 4th minute and despite dominating much of the game didn’t equalise until late in the 57 minute when Mark Matheson beat the outstanding Mike Garnett to send the game into overtime. .
Man of the match Ben O’Connor, on his return to the line up, played his part in Pitt’s OT winner alongside Justin Buzzeo, sending the ecstatic crowd home happy.
O’Connor received an incredible reception on his entrance onto the ice as he was welcomed home pre game.
With all the attention on the Steelers #81 it was the Panthers #81 who scored the opening goal when Luke Pither cut to the middle and fired past Jackson Whistle.
Steelers were playing with passion and desire, creating several chances in both the first and second period but still failing to find the net with the outstanding Garnett denying them time after time.
With time running out the Steelers were throwing everything at the Panthers net, Arran Johnson and Stefan Della Rover combined to set Mark Matheson up on the one timer, Jordan Owens screen was key as the puck whistled past Garnett for the 1-1 goal.
Into overtime and Barrasso started O’Connor with Buzzeo and Pitt with all three combining for the winner just 30 seconds in.
The building went crazy in celebration with a 2-1 final score.
