SHEFFIELD, UK – The Flames lost the handle on a 2 goal lead, then gave up the winner less than 30 seconds from the end of regulation while falling 3-2 at Sheffield Steelers.
Jesse Craige got the visitors started a little over 6 minutes into the evening and Brett Ferguson followed up quickly after that on a powerplay to stake his side to a 2-0 advantage through 20 minutes.
Steelers cut the deficit just over the game’s halfway mark with a Stefan Della Rovere goal and the clubs went to the 2nd break on the 2-1 count.
With just over 7 minutes remaining in the final frame, Josh McFadden set up the nailbiter finish when he knotted the score at a couple each and then just 24 seconds from close Evan McGrath completed the turnaround and the Steelers win.
“Any time you have a lead and then leave with no points, it is disappointing, especially to be just seconds from at least one point by getting into overtime,” said Paul Dixon.
“Having said that, it happens in both directions to every team, and it is our turn tonight to process that and start to move away from it.”
“We have to get home and try to quickly forget the outcome of this one and look ahead to another difficult task with Cardiff Devils in our building tomorrow.”
