SHEFFIELD – The Steelers qualified for the post season play off’s with a comfortable 5-1 home victory over the MK Lightning.
Robert Dowd (2), Josh McFadden, Jonathan Phillips and Brandon Whistle scored as the Steelers raced to a 5-0 lead after just 27 minutes.
George Golovkovs pulled a goal back for MK but it was too little too late for Tim Wallace’s side.
Steelers started like a train with Robert Dowd scoring at 10.26.
It was the start of a first-period floodgate with Josh McFadden doubling the advantage at 13.56 (2-0)
Dowd scored his second at 17.44 (Westerling and Martinelli)
Then Brandon Whistle scored his first goal as a Steeler with just 57 seconds remaining in the first session for a 4-0 scoreline.
Jonathan Phillips added a 5th 7 minutes into the middle session and the playoff qualification was complete.
With just 15 minutes remaining Golovkovs scored a consolation goal for MK and a final score of Steelers 5-1 MK Lightning.
Steelers man of the match was Brandon Whistle after scoring his first goal for the club.
He rewarded the crowd with his golfing “Eddy”
