PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Steelers blank Clan, 3-0

SHEFFIELD, UK – Ervins Mustukovs turned away all 23 Braehead Clan shots on Saturday to lead the Steelers to a 3-0 home victory against Braehead Clan.

Steelers dominated the vast majority of the game and grew in confidence as the night progressed.

Matt Marquardt, Colton Fretter and Mathieu Roy all found the back of the net for Paul Thompsons side who now head in to the Christmas games against Nottingham on the back of two home victories.

In a scoreless first period the Steelers created chances once again without finding the back of the net.

Braehead had the only power-play of the opening period after Andreas Valdix sat out 2 minutes for goalie interference.

Steelers opened the scoring just 98 seconds into the middle session when John Armstrong set up Matt Marquardt to fire through an Andreas Jamtin screen.

Colton Fretter then double the Steelers advantage half way through the 3rd period.

That settled any nerves in the crowd and on the ice – Steelers had taken over the game in the second and third periods and anything other than a home win would have been a travesty.

Braehead pulled their goalie with 2 minutes remaining, the luckless Tim Wallace fired just wide of the empty net, his performance  on the night certainly deserved a goal.

Never fear, The King was on hand moments later on a wrap around for a 3rd Steelers goal.

Man of the match performance for the Moose – he entertained the Steelers crowd orchestrating  a sing late sing song.
