SAN JOSE – The Sharks hosted the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night, in an old fashioned shoot out.

The Coyotes’ Andrew Ladd forced extra time when he scored with 89 seconds left in regulation to force extra time.
The extra session solved nothing, and the Sharks got the win when Tomas Hertl scored in the skills competition to seal an 8-7 victory.
James Reimer made 39 saves in the Sharks win.
“Obviously happy to get the two points, I’ll never complain about that, but it was a frustrating game to coach,” San Jose coach Bob Boughner said. “I thought we settled down, but we couldn’t keep a lead.”
Seven different skaters hit for Sharks goals.
Logan Couture, Timo Meier, and Alexander Barabanov scored a goal apiece and each had two points for the Sharks in the win.
Couture gave the Sharks a 7-5 lead at the 13 minute mark of the third period.
Shayne Gostisbehere scored for Arizona to get within 7-6 before Ladd tied it late.
“There were a lot of breakdowns on both sides, a lot of turnovers a lot of stuff like that,” Arizona head coach Andre Tourigny said. “That’s what happens when you’re not playing for 11 days.”
Nick Bonino,Radim Simek, and Jeffrey Viel also scored for San Jose.
“It means a lot,” Viel said. “Obviously a lucky bounce, but I’ll take it.”
Lawson Crouse scored twice for Arizona, and Phil Kessel struck for a goal; both skaters collected four points in the Coyotes loss.
“I liked the character we showed, we came from behind a few times and came back to tie the game,” Tourigny said. “Showed a lot of passion. There’s a lot of positive and there’s a lot of stuff to work on. When you’re out for 11 days that stuff happens, but I liked the way the guys stayed with it.”
Arizona’s Janis Moser hit for his first two NHL goals.
“You give up a two-goal lead once, OK, that happens in the game, but to do that three times, that’s just over the top,” Boughner said. “I don’t think [Reimer] was at his best, but he didn’t have a lot of support. On a couple of goals, guys were standing around.”
Clayton Keller also scored for the Coyotes.
“It was almost like pond hockey,” Hertl said, who had a goal in regulation for the Sharks. “We got the two points, but we got lucky. We can’t play like that.”
Scott Wedgewood made 20 saves in the Coyotes loss.
