PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Second Period Leads Stingrays to Win over Thunder

phn-bsogWICHITA, Kan. – A four-goal second period helped propel South Carolina (26-16-4-2) to a 5-1 win on Friday night over Wichita (10-30-4-4) at INTRUST Bank Arena. The Stingrays broke open a tie game with three goals in seven minutes en route to their first-ever win against the Thunder.

South Carolina struck first with a goal from Brendan Ellis at2:31 of the first. Wichita capitalized on a two-man advantage with less than five minutes to go. Oslanski drilled a one-timer from the left circle past Mark Dekanich for his 10th of the season.

Caleb Herbert, who was just sent down from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), recorded back-to-back goals to get the Stingrays going in the second. His first came on a breakaway at 4:14. He notched his second of the night at 8:23 to increase the lead to 3-1. David Pacan found the net at 11:44 for his 16th of the year to make it 4-1. Brett Cameron closed the scoring with a power play tally at 17:52and a 5-1 victory.

Oslanski recorded his 10th of the year, which was also his ninth power play goal of the season. Kerbashian and Lowe added assists on the goal. Shantz takes the loss, stopping 29 of 34 shots. Dekanich claims his 13th win, stopping 25 of 26 shots he faced.

Wichita and South Carolina both went 1-for-7 on the man advantage.
