PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Rabbit, Maclise lead Icemen to big win

JACKSONVILLE, FLA –  The Jacksonville Icemen split their weekend home series with the Norfolk Admirals and snapped a six-game skid with an 8-5 victory in front of over 8,000 fans at Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday, February 2nd.

Norfolk took an early 1-0 lead less than 2 minutes into the game on a goal from Matt McMorrow. Shortly after, a huge hit from Icemen defenseman Dajon Mingo erupted the crowed and sparked the team to two unanswered goals from Wacey Rabbit and Cam Maclise to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room after one.

The second period opened with another Rabbit goal answered quickly by Norfolk forward Kelly Kilma. Rabbit would again find the back of the net for the hat trick 12 minutes into the period. Cody Fowlie and Maclise also added goals in the second. Norfolk would keep the game interesting with two late period goals to bring the score to 6-5 Jacksonville heading into the 3rd.

Defenseman Justin Woods would add to the lead late in the third and Maclise would complete the hat trick with an empty net goal to push the Icemen past the Admirals 8-5.

The twin hat tricks by Rabbit and Maclise was the first time in franchise history that two Icemen scored three times in a single game.
