INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Jimmy Spratt made 26 saves and Obi Aduba and Matt Duffy – who also had an assist – provided the goals as the Quad City Mallards shut out the host Missouri Mavericks 2-0 Friday night. Aduba walked in alone to score the Mallards’ first goal at 6:14 of the first period.
The Mallards protected the 1-0 lead deep into the third period before Duffy backhanded an insurance home from the slot with just over two and a half minutes remaining in the game. Spratt made perhaps his biggest save when he kept the Mallards on top by a goal by stopping Brian Bicek’s penalty shot at 5:42 of the third. Also Friday night, Mallards coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski moved into third place in Central Hockey League history in games coached as he stepped behind the bench for his six hundred fifty-seventh CHL game. Ruskowski moved past Chris Stewart into sole possession of third place behind only Doug Sauter (918 games) and Scott Muscutt (709). Ruskowski, who is in his first season with the Mallards, has piloted his teams to a 392-209-66 record. He joined the Mallards after previously serving as head coach of the Laredo Bucks – with who he guided to CHL titles in 2004 and 2006 – and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.
