MOLINE, Ill. – Alex Petan broke a 1-1 tie at 11:20 of the third period and the host Quad City Mallards (3-2-0) went on to defeat the Missouri Mavericks (1-4-0) 2-1 Wednesday night.
Petan ripped the game winner in off the goal post from the high slot.
The Mallards first moved in front while on the power play when Jace Coyle swept the puck in from the left wing circle just 37 seconds into the second period. Radoslav Illo tied the score at one with a wrist shot from the right wing circle at 9:08 of the second, but it was the Mallards who would produce the only goal of the third despite being outshot 10-5 in the final period.
The Mallards next play at home Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers. Game four of the World Series will be shown on the iWireless Center video wall during the Mallards’ match-up with the Oilers. Fans wearing Chicago Cubs or Cleveland Indians apparel to Saturday’s Mallards game will receive $5 off the price of a ticket for selected seats at the iWireless Center box office. Saturday night’s game will also feature a Halloween costume contest- fans of all ages are invited to wear their scariest, funniest or freakiest costumes- as well as in-arena trick-or-treating for younger fans.
