
HUNTSVILLE, AL – Steve Morra netted the deciding goal for Peoria in the shootout as the Rivermen prevailed over the Huntsville Havoc, 3-2 (3-2 SO).
The two teams needed 14 turns to complete the shootout. Huntsville got shootout goals from Scott Henegar and Justin Tateson. In addition to the clincher, Peoria got shootout goals from Morra and Chris Wilson.
The Rivermen came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Down 2-1 after a goal by Henegar at 15:58 in the first period, The Rivermen knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Adam Stuart at 19:22 in the second period. Peoria pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.
The 33 shots that the Rivermen put on net surpassed Peoria’s average of 25.8 shots per game this season.
Peoria also got a goal from Dan Bremner. In addition, Peoria received assists from Terrence Wallin, Wilson, Walker Wintoneak, and Ben Power, who each chipped in one. Huntsville stifled the Rivermen’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.
Stuart Stefan also scored for Huntsville. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Brett Lutes and John Lidgett, who had two.
Kyle Rank made 26 saves for Peoria on 28 shots. The Rivermen registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. Kevin Genoe rejected 30 shots on goal for the Havoc. Huntsville totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major, and went 1-for-6 on the power play. The Havoc ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Steve Mele was ejected from the game.
