
PENSACOLA, FL – On Friday, October 30, the Louisiana IceGators tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Pensacola Ice Flyers held on for a 5-4 victory.
Pensacola made the score 5-2 on a goal by Joseph Holka at 8:26 in the second period, and Louisiana got as close as 5-4 when Blake Hietala scored 18:59 into the third period.
The Ice Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the IceGators to score on any of their four power plays. Pensacola found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Ice Flyers average 2.7 goals per contest.
Pensacola was led by Corey Banfield, who dished out three assists.
Louisiana excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Ice Flyers were unable to stop the IceGators from sending pucks towards the net, and Louisiana eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The IceGators’ normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Louisiana gives up 2.5 goals per game.
The IceGators were helped by Jeremy Boyer, who finished with one goal. Boyer scored 19:46 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Pensacola. Anthony Pisano provided the assist. Others who scored for Louisiana included Luke Kasteel and Jake Hauswirth, who scored one goal each. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Jordan Ciccarello, who had one and Alex Hudson, who had two.
Matt Zenzola recorded 30 saves for Pensacola. The Ice Flyers ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Louisiana’s Adam Courchaine stopped 23 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The IceGators ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
