PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Oilers Trump Thunder in Overtime, 2-1

phn-bsogTULSA, Okla. – Goaltender Jussi Olkinuora earned first-star honors in his first game back with the Oilers, propelling the Tulsa Oilers past the Wichita Thunder, Sunday. Axel Blomqvist scored the overtime game-winning goal and forward Adam Pleskach scored the lone Oilers goal in regulation.

It appeared there would be no scoring during the first two periods of the game, but Pleskach found the back of the net with two seconds left in the second period. The goal was Pleskach’s 18th on the season and tied him with forward Emerson Clark, who is currently on loan with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, for most Oilers goals this season.  Dan Sesalvo and Phil Brewer tallied the assists on the goal. That assist gave DeSalvo points in nine straight games and points in 14 straight home games.

Wichita wanted to make sure that Tulsa didn’t capitalize on the momentum from their late period goal – scoring just 1:52 into the third period. Erick Lizon tapped in a faceoff win from Domenic Alberga.

Goalies Jussi Olkinuora and Grant Rollheiser would duel the rest of the game, forcing the contest into overtime.

Christophe Lalancette won a face-off to Blomqvist at the 1:58 mark of overtime. Blomqvist gathered the puck and snuck it past Rollheiser to crown the Oilers victorious. The goal gave Blomqvist tallies in back-to-back games and three goals in his last four games.

The Oilers will go on the road to face the 1st place Missouri Mavericks on Tuesday. Puck drop will be at 7:05, and fans will be able to watch on ECHL TV and Ustream.
