PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: North Stars, Mustangs split doubleheader

MELBOURNE, Australia – The Newcastle Northstars paid a visit to Melbourne for a double dip with the Mustangs.

On Saturday, the home side Mustangs took a 6-3 victory from the Stars.

The middle frame was all Mustangs as they struck for three unanswered goals.

Neither club was able to score with the man advantage with both teams combining for a goose egg in seven tries.

Anton Kokkonen did hot for a shorthanded goal for Melbourne in the second period.

Steven Kuhnscored twice in the third period to get Newcastle to within two goals late at 5-3 but the clincher went to Jamie Bourke with about 90 seconds left in the match.

Nicholas Mizen took the loss on 33 saves while James Kruger  got the win for the Mustangs on 30 saves.

On Sunday, the Northstars found a way to take the back end of the brace of games with a 4-1 win.

The difference in this game was Joseph Harcharik  who netted all four markers for the Northstars in the win including three in the third period.

Patrick O’Kane had give Melbourne a 1-0 lead in the first period before Newcastle stormed back for the win.

Charles Smart  made 31 saves for the Newcastle win.

James Krugermade 29 saves in the loss.
