The Australian Ice Hockey League hosted its Goodall Cup Championship finals this weekend and the series kicked off with a pair of semi-final game. The first 
was tight match between Perth Thunder and Newcastle North Stars.
After trading goals through regulation, Hannish Powell converted a feed from Brandon Greenside to give the North Stars a 3-2 overtime win.
Andrew Cox and Benjamin Breault had scored for Perth in regulation.
Scott Swiston scored both Stars goals in regulation including the game-tying marker to force the extra session.
