ANNAPOLIS, MD: In the second semi-final game at McMullen Arena on Saturday, March 7, it was the Naval Academy Midshipmen defeating the West Chester University Golden Rams by a final score of 7-0. The two teams had split the regular season games, each winning on home ice.
The first period didn’t see any scoring, but did see a total of four minor penalties called. West Chester put 12 shots on goal, while Navy only fired six on net.
Josiah Tolvo got the scoring stared for the Midshipmen with 2:41 elapsed in the second period. John Mullen and Edward Xiao got the assists. Less than a minute later, with 3:31 elapsed, Conner Hyden scored with the helper coming from Brendan Reynolds. With 12:51 remaining, Joe Kelly tallied a power play goal, with an assist from Derek Golembrosky. John Mullen would get his second point of the game, this time scoring a power play goal. Xiao had the primary assist, with John Scaccia getting the secondary assist.
Conner Hyden would get his second goal of the night 3:40 into the third period, with an assist from Joe Kelly. It would be Kelly scoring next, getting his third point of the night with assists from Conner Hyden and Joseph Gianini. Nathan Hyden would close out the scoring with 14:04 remaining with Derek Golembrosky picking up his second assist of the game. The goal was scored while on the power play.
Charles Doherty, the Navy goaltender would stop all 27 shots he faced. Breandon Colgan would make 19 saves on 26 shots for West Chester.
