PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Mustangs take five in weekend set with Sydney

MELBOURNE, Australia – A doubleheader between the Sydney Bears and Melbourne Mustangs ended with a five-point weekend for the Mustangs.

 The game started out as a physical game with both team putting their bodies on the line, it continued at the same intensity until the final siren. Mustangs had certainly improved with having 43 shots on goal to 25 by the Bears.  In total, there were 13 goals scored for the game with Cameron Todd / Sydney and Jamie Bourke/ Mustangs both scoring hat tricks for their respective teams.  Mustangs were able to outscore the Bears 7-6

Game two of the weekend set had the Mustangs outshooting the Bears were 37 to 25.  Turning point of the game, Mustangs called a time out and came out firing. What was said by the coach spurred the Mustangs to take the game by the scruff of the neck to come back and tie the game at 5-5. Scoring the tie goal with eight seconds to go and forcing it to a shoot out.

Both teams went to five shooters with the Mustangs prevailing in the skills competition.

The Mustangs have most certainly improved compared to the last couple of outings. Sydney Bears most certainly challenged the Mustangs and vice versa.

For the weekend, Mustangs taking the five points bring them up in the overall standings, All teams will play 28 games in the home and away season, there is still a long way to go before the finals for 2017.
