INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI (February 6, 2016)— The Missouri Mavericks collected a 2-1 win on Saturday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in their last regular season matchup against the Colorado Eagles. The Mavs sit atop the ECHL standings with 73 points, and own the most impressive home record in the league, 18-1-0-0.
Net-minder Josh Robinson made 26 saves between the pipes for the Mavericks through a full 60 minutes of play, allowing only one goal from the visiting Eagles, and expanding his personal ECHL record win streak to 19 games. The previous league record for single-season goaltender wins was held by Jeff Jakaitis of the South Carolina Stingrays (2014-15), at 16 straight wins.
Colorado got on the board first at 13:36 when Kyle Ostrow found a way past Robinson with the help of defenseman Jake Marto.
The Mavericks notched the equalizer at 17:25 when handed a two-man advantage with Johnny Lazo (tripping) and Sean Zimmerman (delay of game) in the penalty box. Rocco Carzo made the power-play tally, assisted by Jesse Root and Jesse Graham.
Then Root scored his own tally, which would end up the game-winning goal, just 4:28 into the second period. Defensemen Trevor Ludwig and Graham were credited with the helpers on Root’s twenty-first goal of the season.
The Missouri Mavericks play their next game at home on Tuesday, Feb. 9th against the South Carolina Stingrays. This will be the first visit of the Stingrays to Silverstein Eye Centers Arena, and the first time the Mavericks will ever face the South Carolina team. Puck drops at 7:05p.m.
