TULSA, Okla. – The Kansas City Mavericks picked up an important 6-0 win at Tulsa on Saturday night to keep their playoff hopes alive.

A.J. Vanderbeck secured a hat trick within the opening 30 minutes of the game, while Shane Starrett was perfect in net for the Mavs, stopping all 42 shots he faced.

Tulsa out-shot Kansas City 42-26, but the Mavericks had a large enough lead after the opening period that they sailed through the remaining 40 minutes to the easy victory.

The win keeps Kansas City (31-30-6-2, 70 pts) in the thick of the Mountain Division playoff hunt, three points back of second-place Allen with one week remaining in the regular season. Wichita is tied with Kansas City with 70 points, while Utah and Rapid City are just two points behind.

Tulsa Oilers forward Dante Sheriff (29)

Tulsa (22-37-8-1) brings up the bottom of the division standings and is mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
