INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The Missori Mavericks closed out their season series with the Tulsa Oilers with a 7-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The win was Missouri’s fifth in a row over Tulsa and improved its record to 28-24-7. Click here fo After a rare Saturday off, the Mavericks took some time to find their legs against Tulsa on Sunday. The Oilers struck for the first two goals by the time the game was 5:15 old. Former Maverick Garrett Ladd opened the scoring by burying a one-timer at 2:46. Adam Pleskach followed with a goal from the doorstep and pushed the lead to two. The Mavericks regrouped and answered back with a pair of their own to tie the game before the first period expired. Dan Correale chipped in a sharp-angle power play goal at 9:21 to put Missouri on the board then Dane Fox followed by rifling home a feed from Matt Robertson on a 2-on-1. Both goalies were busy in the first with Josh Robinson turning in 13 saves and Tulsa’s P.J. Musico nine. Missouri snared control with a two-goal outburst early in the second period. Correale netted his second of the game 1:37 into the second with a backhand shot while falling down. Don Olivieri and Conner Bleackley assisted on both of Correale’s goals to double up their point totals. Justin Selman’s unassisted strike at 4:36 extended Missouri’s lead to two. Tulsa ratcheted up the pressure late in the second period thanks to a power play opportunity. Robinson was tested with four high-quality shots in the barrage, but stonewalled each of them and sent the Mavericks to the third ahead by two goals. Missouri poured in three goals in the first 6:05 of the third period and raced ahead to a 7-2 lead. Fox opened up the flood gates at 2:27 and was followed 44 seconds later by Stephen Silas with his first professional goal. Shawn Pauly capped the outburst with his fifth of the season. Justin Breton assisted on the goals by Silas and Pauly for his first points with the Mavericks. That proved to be all the offense the Mavericks needed as Robinson shut the door the rest of the way. The 33-save effort gave Robinson his 11th win of the season. The Mavericks ended the day 1-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. |
