TULSA, OK (Dec. 9) – A three-goal second period helped the Missouri Mavericks erase a two-goal deficit to beat the Tulsa Oilers 3-2 Friday on Teddy Bear Toss Night at the BOK Center.
In his first game back after missing the last six, Garrett Ladd scored the goal that sent the teddy bears flying, when he scooped up a rebound on his backhand and lifted it over the glove of Missouri goaltender Josh Robinson. Darcy Murphy made it 2-0 for Tulsa, when he tipped a Tyson Wilson shot past Robinson with six minutes left in the frame. Oilers goalie Jamie Phillips stopped all eight Mavericks’ shots in the period.
The Mavericks flipped the script in the second period, when Darren Nowick scored a short-handed goal, followed by two more from Jacob Doty and Sam Povorozniouk. The Oilers were penalized four times in the second period, but killed off all four. Missouri outshot Tulsa 16-6 in the frame and led 3-2 after two.
Robinson stopped all 12 Oilers chances in the third period preserve Missouri’s 3-2 lead on his way to victory. Phillips stopped 25 shots in just his third loss of season.
