PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Mallards stop Mavs 3-2

MOLINE, Ill. (Mar. 17) – Michael Parks and Nolan LaPorte provided a goal and an assist apiece and Adam Vay made 29 saves as the host Quad City Mallards (34-23-4) defeated the Missouri Mavericks 3-2 (28-25-8) Friday night.

The third place Mallards now lead the fourth place Kalamazoo Wings by four points in the Central Division standings. The top four finishers in the division qualify for the Kelly Cup playoffs.

LaPorte charged into the Missouri goalmouth to give the Mallards a 3-1 lead at 15:08 of the second period with what proved to be the game winning goal.

The Mallards held onto that two-goal lead until the Mavericks’ Eric Scheid capitalized on a Vay turnover and pumped the puck into the open Mallard net at 16:25 of the third period. The Mallards would, however, hold off the Mavs the rest of the way.

The Mallards first moved in front when Parks buried a rebound at 1:37 of the first period. Brady Brassart’s one timer from the slot extended the lead to 2-0 lead at 6:03 of the first. The Mavericks were on the power play when Connor Bleakley narrowed the gap to 2-1 by firing the puck home from the high slot with just 11 seconds left in the opening period.
