PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Mallards edge Thunder 2-1 in OT

MOLINE, Ill. – Sam Warning’s end-to-end rush gave the host Quad City Mallards (38-24-4) a 2-1 overtime victory over the Wichita Thunder (18-40-6) Sunday.

The third-place Mallards now lead the fourth-place Kalamazoo Wings by four points and trail the second-place Fort Wayne Komets by six points in the Central Division standings.

Warning, who also had an assist, scored the spectacular game winner at 2:42 of sudden death.

The Mallards first took the lead while on the power play when Alex Petan buried Warning’s centering pass 16 minutes into the first period.

It was during a Thunder man advantage that Jerermy Beaudry tied the score at one with a blast from the high slot at 16:22 of the second period.

The Mallards visit Wichita Tuesday night before returning home to meet the Alaska Aces Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. The Mallards will wear special edition military-themed jerseys against the Aces. Those jerseys will be auctioned off after that game to benefit VFW Post 1303 in Rock Island. Friday also brings the return of $2 Dog/$2 Beer Night presented by 97X.
