COLUMBUS, GA – The Macon Mayhem were blown out 7-2 by the Columbus Cottonmouths in their final meeting of the season.
Columbus got out to a blazing start in the game, scoring the first three goals in Macon goaltender Mike DeLaVergne. The first one came at the 8:21 mark in the first period off the stick of Mike Dietrich. Chad Brears scored his second goal in the last two nights at the 15:49 mark of the first to give the Cottonmouths the 2-0 lead.
In the second period, Craig Simchuk extended the Columbus the 3-0 lead. Macon defenseman Daniel Echeverri put the Mayhem on the scoreboard with a power play goal, assisted by Mark Rivera and John Siemer. Rivera’s assist extends his point streak to seven games – the longest streak for the Mayhem this season. Simchuk scored his second of the game to take back the three-goal lead for the Snakes. Echeverri scored on the power play for a second time to answer for the Mayhem, making it a 4-2 game. Brears would answer once again for the Cottonmouths, scoring his second of the game and making it a 5-2 game.
The Snakes would add two more goals in the third period to win 7-2.
