
HUNTSVILLE, AL – Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Louisiana IceGators were able to defeat the Huntsville Havoc, 5-2.
By firing 30 shots on goal, Louisiana exceeded the 22.6 shots it averages per game this year. The IceGators bested their season scoring average. Louisiana averages 2.7 goals per game. The IceGators could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.
Louisiana was helped by Blake Hietala, who registered two goals. Hietala scored the first of his two goals at 18:47 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Louisiana. Jake Hauswirth picked up the assist. Hietala’s next tally made the score 4-0 Louisiana with 12:52 left in the second period. Hauswirth provided the assist. Louisiana also got points from John Daniels, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Louisiana also got a goal from Geordie Wudrick as well. More assists for Louisiana came via Zac Frischmon and Luke Sandler, who contributed one each.
Huntsville’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Louisiana power plays. The Havoc could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game. Huntsville put 38 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.6 it averages per game.
The Havoc were helped by John McGinnis, who grabbed one goal. McGinnis scored 9:42 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Louisiana. Huntsville additionally got points from Dave Williams, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dylan Nowakowski also scored for Huntsville. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Stuart Stefan, Bo Driscoll, and Jason Popek, who each chipped in one.
The IceGators took out Brad Barone after he had made 13 saves and installed Adam Courchaine in goal, where he finished with 23 saves and the win. Huntsville’s starting goalie, Kevin Genoe, made nine saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Ryan de Melo, who stopped 16 shots.
