PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Leksands deflate Steelers in 7-0 decision

SHEFFIELD, UK – A night after a solid 3-2 win over Leksands in preseason action, the Sheffield Steelers had their bubble burst with a 7-0 loss to the same side.

Leksands frustrated the home side for most of the night and that spilled over into a series of major penalties to the Steelers for fighting.

Despite the preseason atmosphere, there was no love loss between either club.

Head coach Paul Thompson said “I feel for our visitors, the fans and our own players as none of us got anything out of tonight’s game

“Both teams just wanted to play 5 on 5, it wasn’t about the results it was about getting some chemistry and feel and neither side could get close to that tonight

“Of course we took some tired penalties. Leksands are a week or two ahead of us in their training camp and you could see that tonight. Of course they would have had a message sent to them following their defeat on Saturday and we expected them to react which they did.

“I just felt the game was spoilt and that’s a shame following such a good night on Sunday. When a team wins 7-0 and complains as much as we do after losing 7 you know all wasn’t right. As I said neither side got anything out the game tonight

“We have worked the boys really hard this week and we will again next, that’s what pre season is all about. Despite this evenings game I would say that week one of camp has been a big success, roll on week 2”

If nothing else came from the game, ice time and conditioning can be built on for the next set of games.
