FORT WAYNE, Ind — Game 7 will be necessary. The Komets stunned the visiting Toledo Walleye Sunday night in Fort Wayne 3-2 in double-overtime to force game 7 of the ECHL best-of-seven second round series. A Mother’s Day crowd of 5,246 were sent home after witnessing the Komets third straight overtime home win.
Brett Perlini started the scoring and finished it. The forward opened the scoring at 5:00
of the second period after a scoreless first stanza. before Josh Holmstrom evened the score at 1-1 before the second intermission.
Mike Embach gave the Komets a 2-1 lead at 7:50 of the third before Martin Frk netted the equalizer with goaltender Neil Conway pulled for the extra attacker with 19 seconds remaining in regulation. After a scoreless overtime, Perlini ended the game at 5:26 of the second extra frame. It was the ninth longest game in Komet history at 85:26.
Komet goaltender Pat Nagle earned his third win of the post-season making 29 saves on 31 shots while Conway suffered his first loss of the playoffs allowing three goals on 56 shots.
