CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones (19-16-3-2) took down the Indy Fuel, 3-1, on Wednesday night. Defenseman Brett Wysopal, and forwards Branden Gracel and Jack Downing scored the goals for the Cyclones, who have won four of their last five games.
Cincinnati got off to a strong start, as just 6:28 into the opening frame, Wysopal intercepted a clearing attempt at the offensive blue line and skated into the high slot where he fired a wrister past Fuel netminderShane Owen, giving the Cyclones a 1-0 lead, and extending his pointstreak to six games.
Roughly four and a half minutes later the Cyclones struck again, when forward Tommy Mele sent a pass to Gracel, and he skated in on goal and flipped a backhander under the crossbar and in, pushing Cincinnati’s lead to 2-0.
That 2-0 lead held up throughout the remainder of the first and all throughout an evenly-matched second, and in the third, the Cyclones struck once more when forward Andrew Yogan sent a no-look pass to Downing who was crashing the net and he slipped the puck five-hole on Owen, pushing the Cyclones to a 3-0 advantage, 6:20 into the frame.
The Fuel got on the a few minutes later when forward Rhett Bly found the back of the net, but that was all the offense the Fuel were able to muster, as Cyclones netminder Andy Iles turned aside 24 of the 25 shots he faced to preserve the 3-1 win.
The Cyclones outshot the Fuel, 26-25, on the night, while the power play was held scoreless on all three chances. Cincinnati heads back on the road on Friday when they travel to Ft. Wayne to battle the Komets. Faceoff is set for 8:00pm ET.
