PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Icemen fall to Solar Bears

JACKSONVILLE, FLA – On Saturday, February 9th, the Jacksonville Icemen took to the ice at the Veterans Memorial Arena looking to right the ship after two consecutive losses to the Orlando Solar Bears. Despite a comeback that saw them erase a two-goal deficit, the Icemen fell for a third time to their in-state rivals by a final of 3-2 in overtime.

After spotting Orlando a two goal lead, the Icemen began chipping away late in the first period when captain Garet Hunt redirected a shot by defenseman Blake Kessel past Solar Bears goalie Martin Ouellette to trim the margin to 2-1.

Early in the second frame, Jacksonville pulled even when Cody Fowlie got loose and scored a short-handed goal to even the score at 2-2.

Icemen netminder Ken Appleby matched Ouellette save for save through the rest of the second period and the entire third period as the game went into overtime. In the extra period, Appleby made several saves during a Solar Bears power play before the visitors finally scored off of a three-on-one break.

Appleby finished the night with 36 saves on 39 shots faced.
