JACKSONVILLE, FLA – For the first time in the history of the series, the Icemen beat the Florida Everblades 2-1 in regulation at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on Wednesday, November 14th. The two teams have met five times this month with the Icemen recording four points in an overtime win, regulation win, and three losses. The teams meet again in two and a half weeks in Estero.
Cody Fowlie opened the scoring for Jacksonville 3:20 into the first period with assists going to Garret Cockerill and Cameron Critchlow. The Icemen doubled their lead at the 9:21 mark of the second when Wacey Rabbit lit the goal light off of assists from Cam Maclise and Dajon Mingo.
Florida trimmed the lead in half late in the middle period when John McCarron and Joe Cox helped set up Josh Wesley for a goal.
That would be as close as the Everblades got as Jacksonville goalie Mikhail Berdin shut the door, making 27 saves in the game to earn the victory. Former Icemen netminder Jamie Phillips was the tough luck loser, stopping 20 of the 22 shots he faced.
