MELBOURNE, Australia – The Melbourne ice hosted the Canberra Brave in a double header before the finals, could this be a sneak peak for a final in the next week end of games?
Both teams came out to play, putting on the big body checks, at the same time no major damage wanted to be done, so both teams have their full list for the finals. Many times when the Brave had the puck and tried passing, the Ice were right there to cut off the pass or deflect the pass. Ice there the better team to recover on the loose pucks.
Over the weekend, Melbourne had 72 shots to 46, if the Brave are wanting to win over the Ice they really need to put shots on the net.
Highest point scorers for the weekend were Thomas Powell and Jeremy Brown, there were quite a few others on two points for the week end.
Interestingly on Sunday, Melbourne had only two PIMs where as Brave had 18 PIMs. The Ice were able to keep their cool and not be tempted by the Brave’s tricks behind the play.
From the weekend, Melbourne were convincing winners taking all six points that were available.
The Goodall Finals are set with the following pairings.
Melbourne Ice V Mustangs – Melbourne Derby , there will be no room to move at the rink, seating or standing.
Perth Thunder V Canberra Brave, this is an unknown game, have seen both teams play in Melbourne but not against each other. Going on performance for the 2017 season, Thunder will be too strong and there is more depth on the bench.
Melbourne Ice will be strong and they have another couple of gears to go before they reach their maximum effort.
Like most the final should be Ice V Thunder, Thunder will be able to keep up it will be who wants it more on the day as it is knock out finals.
This playing group for the Melbourne Ice can they be the successful playing group of the AIHL by achieving the most points in a season the most wins. The regular games in the season is 28, they have had 22 wins (the most by any team in the AIHL) and on 71 points broke their own record last year. To make this a reality and to be the most successful playing group in the history of the AIHL, they need to win two more games and hold up the Goodall Cup for 2017.
