MELBOURNE, Australia – The Sydney Bears visited the Melbourne Ice Saturday and got out to a 3-1 lead through the second period.
Ryan Annesley’s two goals and a marker from Michael Schlamp had the Bears rolling.
Bobby Lipsett scored for the Ice to give the Melbourne faithful a bit of hope.
Through two periods the Bears capitalized on a listless Ice squad for the lead.
In the third period, the Ice found some momentum and Jack Carpenter and Lipsett scored to get the clubs back to even and force a shootout.
In the skills competition, Nik Kawasaki was the lone goal scorer for the Bears to give them a 4-3 win and avoid the complete collapse.
