PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Ice host Mustangs in opening set Ice shutout Mustangs, 3-0

MELBOURNE, Australia – The AIHL Season has come around again on Saturday 23rd April 2016 at the O’Brien Group Arena in Melbourne and The Melbourne Ice played hosts to their cross town rivals The Melbourne Mustangs, to a crowded arena that was sold out and there was no standing room available.PHN_BSOG-200x133

The game started off very quickly through a score by Joseph Hughes for the Melbourne Ice with in the first 30 sec of the 1st puck drop.

The reminder of the 1st period was some great skating from both teams and neither team were able to break through and add any further goals on the score board.

The second period continued in the same way as the first period. Great skating from both team and no one was able to break the score line of 1 goal to the Melbourne Ice. There is no love lost between the two Melbourne teams and you could the instigator Jamie Bourke from the Mustangs was chirping, and it seems that it will be only a matter of time before he is taught a lesson being from Melbourne Ice or another team.

The third period still continued in the same way as the first and the second. There were some great skills on display between the two teams skating between the two ends of the ice. Melbourne had control of the puck majority of the time, but do not discount the Mustangs out of the game just yet. Melbourne Ice scored two quick goals within 30sec of each other through Tommy Powell and Matt Armstrong and this was less than 5 mins to before the end of the game.

The final score was Melbourne Ice 3 – Mustangs 0.
