MELBOURNE, Australia – The Sydney Ice Bears had a lost weekend in Melbourne this past week. On Saturday, they lost to the Mustangs, 4-1 and followed that up with a 5-3 loss to the Ice.
Thomas Powell completed a hat trick on the night with an empty-net goal that sealed the win for the Ice; Powell also kicked in an assist for a four-point game.
Powell scored in each of the three periods with his final marker stemming a rally by the Bears who cut their deficit to 4-3 with just under seven minutes left in the final frame.
Paul Baranzelli and Matt Armstrong also scored for the Ice.
Joseph Harcharik scored twice for the Bears and Adrian Esposito scored for the Bears.
Alex Leclerc picked up the win on 23 saves for the Ice and Kamil Jarina was saddled with the loss in a 26-save effort.
