The game between the Knoxville Ice Bears and the Columbus Cottonmouths was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Knoxville emerged with a 4-2 win.
Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Tyler Beasley‘s goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.
Beasley had two goals to lead the Ice Bears to victory.
Knoxville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.
Knoxville also got points from Dennis Sicard, who also registered one goal and one assist. Corey Fulton also scored for Knoxville. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Garrett Vermeersch, who had three and Trever Hertz and John Clewlow, who contributed one each.
Columbus’ offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 21.7 shots per game it averages.
The Cottonmouths were helped by Kyle Shapiro, who racked up one goal. Shapiro scored 7:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Tyler Henry assisted on the tally. Columbus also got a goal from Craig Simchuk as well. More assists for Columbus came via Ben OQuinn and Andy Bathgate, who each chipped in one.
Brian Billett rejected 34 shots on goal for the Ice Bears. Knoxville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brandon Jaeger recorded 18 saves for Columbus. The Cottonmouths incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
