PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Huntsville Unable to Bust Through the Door in 6-4 Loss to Macon

HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Havoc score two powerplay goals but are unable to overcome a four-goal first period deficit in the 6-4 loss to the Mayhem.

Macon kicked off the scoring just twenty seconds into the first period while on their way to four goals in the opening frame.

In the second, the Havoc went to work while seeing two man-advantage goals in the frame. Their first came when Jordan Wood saw a pass from John Clewlow and walked in on the right-wing hash. The Surrey, B.C. native flipped a backhander through traffic for his 17th of the season at 3:41 of the middle frame.

Just over four minutes later, Huntsville saw their third man-advantage of the night. A blast from Andy Willigar at the point went wide and caromed off the end-wall. With Sy Nutkevitch standing on the doorstep, the Montreal, Que. native tapped home his 11th of the season eight minutes into the second to cut the deficit in half.

The two-goal deficit was short-lived when the Mayhem scored their fifth of the night just 73 seconds later. During a see-saw second period, Huntsville saw their third of the game with Blake Heitala picking up his first as a Havoc. Scott Fellnermayr fed a pass from the end-wall with Nutkevitch sliding across the slot. With the pass going through the outstretched reach of the 28-year-old, Heitala, who was right behind, found the puck on his stick and potted home the goal at 16:20.

The Havoc found themselves entering the third within two and began to push the momentum to their side. With multiple opportunities on the doorstep that would just not go over the goal line, Huntsville saw their hard-work pay off. Recently signed forward Darren McCormick found a juicy rebound and shoved his first professional goal at 14:22 to get within one.

But the four-goal deficit proved too much for the Havoc to overcome as the Mayhem finished the night with an empty-netter for the 6-4 contest.
