PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Huntsville beats Mississippi RiverKings 4-0 as Genoe gains shutout

Best Shots of the Game Logo HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Huntsville Havoc used a sparkling performance by Kevin Genoe to take down Mississippi RiverKings, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Huntsville’s 4-0 shutout victory.

The Havoc were paced by John Lidgett, who registered one goal and one assist. Lidgett scored on the power play 17:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Huntsville had gained a power play chance when Ian Young was whistled for tripping. Stuart Stefan assisted on the tally.

The Havoc forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and three majors for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 32.0 minutes per game Huntsville had been spending in the box. The Havoc’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Mississippi RiverKings power plays.

Huntsville was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Havoc average 2.2 goals allowed per game. Huntsville kept Mississippi RiverKings’ goalie Peter Di Salvo busy throughout the game, DiSalvo making 27 saves on 31 shots.

Jason Popek also scored for Huntsville. Two more assists for Huntsville came via Brett Lutes, and Scott Henegar, Nolan Kaiser, and Will Aide each contributed one.

The Mississippi RiverKings’ penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and three majors for 39 minutes in penalty time, far surpassing their season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Mississippi’s offense operated below their season average, even though they forced Genoe to work between the pipes. The RiverKings’ shooting was led by Matt Beer who took five shots, but Genoe stopped all 31 attempts of the game. The Havoc registered two goals on two power play opportunities.
