
HUNTSVILLE, AL – Mississippi RiverKings tried its best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Huntsville Havoc would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.
Huntsville took a 3-1 lead during the second period, all from the hat trick of Garrick Perry, only to have Mississippi RiverKings storm back on a Linden Bahm goal 9:23 into the third period to pull to one goal down.
The Havoc excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Huntsville was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The Havoc relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Garrick Perry, Jackson Brewer and John Lidgett took 12 of the team’s 23 shots.
In addition, Huntsville received assists from Zach Josepher and Nick Schneider, who contributed one each.
By firing 29 shots on goal, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 24.4 shots it averages per game this year.
Mississippi RiverKings was helped by Matt Harrington, who tallied one goal. Harrington scored 14:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Ben Woodley provided the assist. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Bret Peppler, Mike Grace, and Todd Hosmer, who each chipped in one.
Ryan de Melo rejected 27 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Havoc registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Garrett Sheehan made 20 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 23 shots. Mississippi RiverKings ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors.
