PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Hunt sets mark in Icemen victory

JACKSONVILLE, FLA – Friday, October 26th was a big night at the Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville as Icemen captain Garet Hunt established a new ECHL record while his team remained unbeaten with a 4-2 victory over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.

Jacksonville’s Everett Clark got things going 1:59 into the first period when he scored his second goal of the season with the lone assist going to Alexis D’Aoust. D’Aoust was also in onthe Icemen’s second tally as he and Clark drew the helpers on Wacey Rabbit’s third of the year at 17:51 of the opening frame.

Greenville answered back when Johno May netted his fourth tally of the season 52 seconds into the second period during a power play. The Icemen got that goal back with a special teams score of their own when Dajon Mingo scored a short-handed goal. Mingo’s score, his first of the season, came at 8:13 of the middle stanza.

The game stayed that way until the 18:21 mark of the third period when the Swamp Rabbits’ Austen Brassard netted his third of the season to trim the margin to 3-2. D’Aoust then sealed the Jacksonville victory with his fourth of the year 34 seconds later.

Along the way, Hunt broke Cam Brown’s record of 2,425 career penalty minutes. Thanks to two fights and 16 total penalty minutes in the game, Hunt’s new mark stands at 2,431 and counting.

Both D’Aoust and Clark finished the night with a goal and two assists.
